Punjab to Provide 125,000+ Electric Bikes to Students With Zero Down Payment
Punjab’s electric mobility program is getting a major expansion, with more than 125,000 electric bikes set to be provided to students across the province. The new scheme removes the upfront down payment, keeps the proposed monthly installment at around Rs. 3,000, and includes government-paid interest and insurance.
Punjab is taking another major step toward electric mobility as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved an expanded electric bike scheme for students. Under the latest plan, more than 125,000 male and female students will be able to obtain electric bikes without making a down payment.
The development is important for Pakistan’s growing electric vehicle market because electric motorcycles and scooters are likely to have a much larger impact on everyday transportation than electric cars alone. Motorcycles are already widely used across Punjab, particularly by students, workers and families looking for affordable transportation.

More Than 125,000 Electric Bikes for Punjab Students
The expanded CM Maryam Nawaz E-Bike Scheme will provide more than 125,000 electric bikes to eligible students across Punjab.
The government’s latest decision follows a special meeting in which the scheme was reviewed and several changes were approved. One of the biggest changes is the removal of the down payment requirement.
Earlier plans for the student e-bike program included an upfront contribution for some applicants. The new direction removes that barrier and aims to make the scheme accessible to students who may be able to manage a monthly payment but cannot afford a large initial payment.
The government has also rejected proposals that would have required students to pay additional charges apart from the monthly installment.
This could make the program particularly attractive to students from lower- and middle-income families, for whom transportation costs can represent a significant part of the monthly household budget.
Zero Down Payment Is the Biggest Change
The most significant feature of the latest Punjab e-bike announcement is the zero-down-payment policy.
Under the revised arrangement, students will not be required to pay an upfront amount before receiving an electric bike. The Punjab government will also bear the interest and insurance costs associated with the scheme.
For a student, this changes the economics of getting an electric bike considerably. Instead of having to save a substantial amount before applying, the student can potentially access the financing arrangement through manageable monthly payments.
Officials have agreed in principle to a monthly installment of approximately Rs. 3,000. The exact financial and eligibility terms should, however, be checked through the official application process when applications open.
Applications Expected to Open on September 4
Students interested in the program should pay particular attention to the application schedule. According to the latest information, online applications are scheduled to open on Friday, September 4, 2026.
The Punjab government has directed authorities to activate the e-bike application portal and begin the process for eligible students.
This means students should avoid relying on unofficial social-media pages, agents or websites claiming to provide guaranteed registration or selection. Applicants should use the official government application channel and carefully review the eligibility requirements before submitting their information.
